Are you experiencing problems with your dog ? It maybe you have a new rescue who has not had much training, or an adolescent who has suddenly forgotten their recall, is jumping up at everyone, or dragging you around whilst on lead pulling your arms out of their sockets.. That can be pretty disheartening and not much fun,, especially if at one time they behaved beautifully as a puppy, and now all that training seems to have gone out of the window.. You might be wondering why you ever got your dog in the first place as you desperately try to avoid putting yourself into horribly embarrassing situations and find yourself apologising or getting defensive on walks. as your dog gaily ignores you.
WHY SHOULD YOU WORK WITH ME?
I've been there, I have over 40 years experience of having my own dogs of many breeds, although I now have Spaniels and foreign rescues that I have a particular interest in working with in the behavioural modification side of my work.
Working together as a team, we can make life easier for you and your dog, and start to build the great relationship you want to have with your best friend.
I've had my own adolescent dogs to deal with as well as rescues who have come to me never having had any training. It can be hard work and sometimes you will wonder what you were thinking, especially if like me, you have high energy working breeds . I understand, and I am not here to judge but to help. you.and your dog succeed.
I am Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) , School of Canine Science (SoCS,) and Pro Dog Trainer ( PDT) trained and only use ethical reward based training that is scientifically proven to work, using food and toys, and will teach you using easy to follow exercises and games, so neither you or your dog feel overwhelmed, making training a fun experience. Lets face it if training is fun it doesn't feel like a chore and you and your dog will look forward to it.
I'm used to training dogs for agility and getting them to focus on their handlers, I especially love teaching recall and want everyone to experience the freedom of having their dogs off lead so they can enjoy stress free adventures with them. Everything I teach you will be also be sent to you as pre recorded short videos via WhatsApp so you can go over each exercise again in your own time to practice at home before you start to add in distractions. . I want you to have the best relationship with your dog.
WHY DO I OFFER PROGRAMMES RATHER THAN ONE OFF SESSIONS ?
Let's take recall as an example. You may go to a recall workshop for an 1 1/2 - 2 hours but when you come away how much of it do you actually remember ? What often happens is half the exercises get missed out once back home, or forgotten and then recall still doesn't improve as you still need to work on ALL of the foundation exercises to get a rock solid recall.
By having a 121 of more than one session with me you will learn in bite sized pieces that you can then go away and practice practice practice before we meet for the next session. I may ask you to put control and management into place, and I'll explain how and when to start increasing your distractions and distance. Sessions could be weeks apart to give you time to practice, or the week after if you are making good progress. It's tailored to suit you and during that time you can send me videos of your progress ( if you want to, not obligatory) although I find if you are accountable it's helpful to get your homework done :-)
WHAT DO I WANT FROM YOU?
You will need to be prepared to put some work in with training, and practice, gradually building the distractions, You will need to find just 3-5 minutes 3 times a day. (Do it whilst the kettle boils) and allow around 3 weeks if the struggle has really become a habit. Consistency is the key, as we need to unpick the behaviour we don't want and replace it with the behaviour that we do want.
'I know this probably isn’t a big thing for some but for us this is HUGE!! Thanks for all the info Sue this week the recall has been pretty spot on. The games have really helped tremendously. She was stalking a pheasant in the video” Erica.
